Oral Assignments

Spoken language is the heart and soul of the language classroom. It is hard to proof oral competence to assessment institutions. It is even harder sometimes to show to students how much they have learned over their course of study in the given language. Often students get frustrated with their progression in language study during their third and fourth semester, when the learning curve has sloped off and they are asked to produce language independently.

In this class, students give many mini group presentations. I video tape these presentations and have group sessions with the students afterwards, to watch these videos with them. I ask the students to identify what they did well during their presentations. I also ask them to point out things that could be improved, and how they plan to improve these things for their next presentation.

I gave the students the videos and asked them to describe their progression of their oral presentation skills according to the following list of criteria:

presentation rubric GERMAN 202.docx
presentation rubric GERMAN 202.docx
